Antique Restoration
Antique Restoration
Most professional musicians and collectors covet the sound of an antique instrument. The manner in which the wood ages and dries out over time can create a superior sound to that of a new instrument. The history and craftsmanship behind an antique instrument can also make it very special.
If you have an antique instrument that you would like to learn more about, or want to have repaired and restored, bring it in to the store and we will help you with anything you may need. You can also call ahead to make sure John is available when you come in. Instruments require care and upkeep throughout their life, so your instrument may need some work if it has not been to a luthier in a while. Almost all instruments can be repaired so don't hesitate to bring yours in; we can help you know if your instrument is worth repairing.
If you do not have an antique instrument, but would like one, please check out our Antique Instruments page to see our current selection of antique instruments.

Instrument Care
Taking Care of Your Instruments
All instruments will need regular adjustments and maintenance throughout their life, but there are some things that you can do to keep your instrument looking and sounding it's best between visits to the shop. Here we have a list of some of the basic things you should be doing to take care of your instrument. If you have any further questions about what you can do to take care of your instrument at home, give us a call or come into the shop where one of our experts can help you.
-
If your instrument is not in your hands or being played, it should be on an instrument stand or in your case. Do not leave your instrument on the floor or in your chair!
-
Loosen your bow when you are not playing to relieve the tension.
-
Gently wipe the extra rosin off of the wood and strings with your cleaning cloth when you are done playing.
-
Instruments are very sensitive to changes in temperature due to the type of glue used to make and repair them. Avoid leaving them near heating/cooling vents or in hot/cold cars.
-
Be aware of the changing of seasons which bring about changes in temperature and humidity. If you have questions about what you can be doing in different seasons, call or come into the shop for more information.
